Dear Delegates,

the year a year has passed and we are pleased to welcome you at the second international model United Nations in Prague at Gymnázium Jana Nerudy.

Once again we are glad to organize this extraordinary event that brings students from several countries around the world together to discuss solutions to the issues of one of the most active international organizations.

To change things around us we all have to make a first step, and I am persuaded that this conference can be a tool, a stepping stone for us to know the right way how to make a change in the future world, for it is not an empty phrase that misunderstanding is the most frequent cause of a conflict.

Every problem is like a kaleidoscope, it has many little stones that under different angle of view of each and every nation create multiple pictures.

Therefore, may the second year of PRAMUN help us to make a progress in understanding of different cultures and diverse points of view as well as our tolerance to them.

I hope this year's conference will take up the successful result of the preceding PRAMUN in finding solutions to the most pressing issues of nowadays world.

Dear colleagues, I wish you fruitful debates and luck in finding agreements. It is my pleasure to welcome you for the second time at the PRAMUN conference.

1.  Is all the instant messaging / twittering / facebook / cellphone activity helping erode kids' social face to face skills?

2.  Can there be too much "screen" time (TV, computer, cell phone, psp, wii...) or never enough "screen" time?

3.  How can youth resist the fact that they are targeted relentlessly by marketers to consume constantly?

The Youth Forum will be an opportunity for all of the students to voice their opinion. They can each pick one of the questions (all three, time permitting) that they would like to address in Committee, before the actual Committee business gets under way.

It is intended as an ice breaker for them to get to know one another, as well as a chance for them to express their personal feelings about a topic, as opposed to only the opinion of the country they are representing.

They will each be given 2 minutes to address their fellow Committee members.

After all of the students that have addressed a topic have spoken, the Chair will take an unofficial tally, by a simple show of hands, to determine which way each Committee decided to go. At the end of the Opening Ceremony, the Secretary General will announce which way all of the Committee's voted.

Konferenci PRAMUN 2 pořádá GJN ve spolupráci s americkými organizátory a zakladateli panem a paní Schmollovými a paní Lindou Levine

Termín konání: 6.-9.1.2010 (středa – sobota, pro hosty: neděle 10. 1. návštěva památek a odpoledne odjezd)

Místo konání: GJN Hellichova, Hotel Pyramida, Praha 6 a České muzeum hudby, Karmelitská (slavnostní závěr konference)

Studenti se mohou účastnit konference jako delegáti za jednotlivé země nebo jako asistenti organizátorů.

Aktivity delegátů konference spočívají v práci v komisích, kde se debatuje na aktuální politická témata, vytvářejí se, obhajují a schvalují rezoluce. Konference je vedena formou, jakou probíhají skutečná jednání OSN.

K účasti jsou zváni i studenti, kteří ještě zkušenost s debatou a modely Spojených národů nemají.

Práce asistentů spočívá v technicko organizační pomoci, tj. tisk dokumentů a kopírování, služba a asistence v počítačové učebně, roznášení rezolucí a zpráv, pomoc při pohybu v budově, pomoc při organizaci oběda ve školní jídelně, práce hostesek, doprovod hostů během prohlídky Prahy apod.

Součástí programu je i neformální debata „Youth Forum“ a kulturní a společenské akce (platí pro delegáty i asistenty) v hotelu Pyramida (disco, koncert,…). Ve všech částech programu se komunikuje anglicky.

Konference se kromě nás a Gymnázia Arabská zúčastní 2 - 3 střední školy z USA, mezinárodní americké školy z Něměcka, střední škola z Ruska a pravděpodobně některá z mezinárodních škol v Praze.

Pro všechny účastníky je povinná docházka na přípravné schůzky (začaly počátkem listopadu), studium zadaných témat, osvojení debatní terminologie a stylistických zásad psaní rezolucí, vytvoření cvičné ‘draft resolution‘ apod.
