Students are graded on the basis of continual assessment and termly compositions.
At the end of each term they are required to write a composition in each subject,in Maths and Czech at the end of each quarter-term, and are then graded on a scale from "1" to "5" - from the highest to the lowest:
1 - excellent
2 - creditable
3 - good
4 - satisfactory
5 - unsatisfactory
When given "5", students can do a reparatory exam before the new school year starts. If they fail, they have the right to repeat the previous school year, on condition they do not fail in more subjects than two.
Final exams called "Maturita" are done at the end of the 6th year of school attendance. The exams are taken obligatorily in Czech and then in three or more optional subjects.
In bilingual classes obligatory subjects are Czech, French and Maths, and then three or more optional subjects in French or Czech languages. Two subjects, French and Czech, are taken a t the end of the 5th year and in the 6th year students prepare for Maths and other selected subjects.
